Jack in the Box is the 4th painting in my series of photorealistic acrylic paintings. The original painting is on a 36”x36” gallery wrapped canvas.
This painting pays homage to the great trompe- l’oeil artists of the past and it serves as the root of my fascination of exploring the boundary between image and reality. Since I was a young man I have always been fascinated with the magic of turning a flat two-dimensional surface into a seemingly 3D image. The painting also is a tribute to one of the most iconic pre-21st century children’s toys…the jack in the box… minus the song Pop Goes the Weasel!
