Pepper Jack Cheese is the 15th painting in my “I DO Know Jack!” series of large acrylic paintings. I used Golden OPEN slow-drying acrylics on a 40”x30” gallery-wrapped canvas. The atmosphere and style was created as an homage to the wonderful Dutch still life artists of the 16th and 17th centuries. The variety and interplay between the eye catching color of the bell pepper and the soft buttery feel of the cheese plays against the abstract mysterious feel of the chrome jack that gives the eyes several different places to study. Strong light, dark backgrounds and shadows were a signature of those centuries old masters.
